Official page verified: it exists for “first-year undergraduates,” and the application’s high-school-graduation dropdown tops out at 2026, which is exactly the class of 2030. Feeds Jane Street’s sophomore and junior internships (~$250k annualized, aggregator-reported). NYC 2026-27 dates are not posted yet — the Hong Kong session (Sep 30–Oct 3, 2026) is already live. A genuinely paid freshman summer internship at a tier-1 quant fund — prior posting wording: “open to students currently enrolled in their first year in 4-year Bachelor’s programs.” The single highest-value target on this page. Last cycle’s req is already pulled and the summer-2027 one is not up yet; it historically goes live Jul–Oct. Check the board weekly from September and apply inside the first two weeks — the archived NYC req had no deadline and simply vanished between February and April.

Two-day, all-expenses recruiting event for first- and second-years — roundtrip economy airfare, hotel, meals — that feeds straight into internship interview tracks. Caveat verified Aug 8: the live pages still carry the 2025-26 window, “must be a first-year or second-year to apply (December 2027 – June 2029 graduation date),” which as written excludes class of 2030. The window rolls forward each cycle to Dec 2028–Jun 2030. Watch for the reposting and apply at the priority deadline.

Invitation-only two-day trading competition for “a select group of first- and second-year undergraduates” — official wording, confirmed on the live page. The 2026 edition ran Apr 16–17 in NYC with applicants notified by Mar 18, implying a February-ish close. Travel and accommodation covered, winners take prizes, standouts get pulled toward trading internships. The 2027 cycle is not posted yet.

Three-day NYC immersion — hands-on workshops, tech talks, networking — for “first and second-year students” in CS, math and STEM. This is the on-ramp to HRT’s Sophomore Internship (summer 2028: $5,800/week plus company-paid housing and meals, rotating through Algorithm Development and Software Engineering), which is the actual prize; HRT’s summer 2027 internships are 2028-grads only. The Express Interest link 404’d on Aug 8, so the 2027 cycle is not live. Join the Campus Talent Community now — it is explicitly open to first-years.

Free one-to-two day discovery events built explicitly for students “not yet eligible for our internships” who are “passionate about math, puzzles, and strategy games.” Community reports say the freshman day requires no interview, unlike the sophomore one. This is the freshman entry point — SIG’s actual trading internships require graduating before Aug 2028. US 2026-27 events post in fall; a virtual Sydney edition is listed with a Jan 9, 2027 deadline.

Options market maker (CBOE floor plus electronic) whose posted bar is simply “must be active college students during Fall 2027” — no class-year floor, which makes this the best true freshman-eligible prop-shop summer seat found in the entire sweep. Feeds the full-time Trading Analyst class. Smaller name than Citadel, but it is a real paid trading seat you can actually get.

Year-long virtual development and insight series that is explicitly first-year only — last cycle’s wording: “First year undergraduate students graduating between December 2028 – May 2029.” The next cycle should read Dec 2029–May 2030, i.e. class of 2030. Unpaid, but it is the standard first rung: it feeds the sophomore Emerging Leaders Series and then the summer analyst pipeline. Historically opened Feb 1.

One-to-two week virtual insight tracks (markets, IB, technology, company functions) quoted by university career centers as open to “current full-time undergraduate freshmen and sophomores” — rare for a bank — and doubling as the first stage of summer-analyst recruiting. The posting targets several identity categories including women and underrepresented populations; read each track’s eligibility wording before applying. Application is a resume plus a HireVue video.

Daylong business-side program for “first- and second-year university students” — one of two tracks, Strategy & Product (New York and London) or Institutional Sales & Trading (London only). No demographic restriction, verified on the official page. Travel, meals and housing provided; the program itself is unpaid. Currently interest-signup only, no session dates.

The rest of the first-year shelf, both notify-form only. FOCUS: multi-day program for first-year students who have “experienced barriers to accessing advanced STEM educational opportunities” — first-gen, financial need, under-resourced or rural school, marginalized community, or personal hardship. INSIGHT: SWE, trading and strategy tracks restricted to “women, transgender, and/or gender-expansive individuals.” Apply only where the criteria genuinely apply. Gotcha worth knowing: the “Accepting Applications” badge is hardcoded on all 14 program cards — it is boilerplate, not live status. Only a real form counts.

The only freshman-specific hedge-fund program the sweep found: a six-week virtual immersion for first-year students from communities historically underrepresented in the investment industry, feeding Bridgewater’s sophomore Immersion and junior internship pipeline. Last publicly confirmed cycle was Winter 2023, old program pages 404, and it is absent from the current job board. Check each winter; expect nothing.

Twelve-week pod-based rotation through design, build and quality — a mix of PM and SWE work — explicitly for “first- and/or second-year college students,” with a separate first-year application from the second-year one. Verified live on the official page for the summer 2027 cycle, contradicting one aggregator’s claim it was cancelled. The most concrete freshman-built tech seat available today: apply this week.

The first/second-year SWE internship: “designed for first- and second-year students with little or no coding internship experience,” needs at least one CS course and a return to school afterward. Conflicting reports for 2027 — one source says STEP was folded into the general SWE internship after 2025, others say it was rebranded Associate Software Developer Intern and is definitely running. Check careers.google.com in September and take whichever exists.

Pre-internship program stated in class-year terms: last cycle read “first-year (class of 2029) or second year (class of 2028) undergrad… in CS, CE, EE, Mathematics, or related fields,” so the 2027 cycle should read class of 2030. Minimum 3.0 GPA. Roundtrip travel covered plus a supplemental housing stipend on top of hourly pay. The catch: last cycle’s application window was Oct 6–19. Set an October alarm and have the resume ready before it opens.

A four-week SDE bootcamp followed by an eight-week project — freshman-friendly by construction, since it teaches before it tests. Prior cycles used a wide graduation window (Oct 2025–Sep 2028 in the 2025 cycle) that for a summer-2027 edition should cover class of 2030. Language about supporting underrepresented candidates is encouragement, not a hard restriction. Continuation post-DEI-rollback is unconfirmed — verify wording when the req drops.

Twelve-week paid internship described as being “for undergraduate freshman and rising sophomores,” spanning SWE, data science, PM, strategy & ops and finance, and explicitly open to first- and second-year university and community-college transfer applicants. Caution: the official program URL returned 404 on the Aug 8 check, so 2027 continuation is unconfirmed. Re-check jobs.uber.com in September; the historical deadline is ~January.

Quantitative Analyst, Proprietary Trading and Software Developer tracks. The firm “welcomes students from all academic disciplines” with no class-year floor, though the QA posting notes that applicants “are usually approaching their final year of full-time study” — technically eligible, realistically a reach. The richest posted package anywhere on this page, and the firm’s own advice is to apply by the end of the calendar year.

The full 2027 campus board is live — quantitative trader, quantitative researcher, C++/Python SWE, FPGA, data and systems engineering. A sweep of all 44 reqs found no freshman program but also no stated class-year floor: the wording is just “sharpest analytical minds from top undergraduate and graduate programs.” Cohorts are tiny and fill fast; apply in the first week of a posting or not at all.

Posted eligibility is only “Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD student” in CS, math, physics or EE — no class-year floor on the live summer 2027 requisitions. Tower has run explicitly sophomore-targeted reqs in past cycles but none is posted for 2027. Housing accommodation included.

Firm FAQ wording: “students of all class years, including grad students, are welcome to apply… except graduating seniors.” Only pre-final-year interns get return-offer consideration, which works in a freshman’s favour. Summer postings go up in August — verify the class-year line on the live Lever post, since one prior SWE req specified juniors. Also worth knowing: Belvedere runs a winter-quarter academic-year QT internship.

Verified posting wording: “currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate degree program and returning to school following the internship,” plus CS/math fundamentals — no class-year floor. Reality check: roughly 20–30k applications for 100–150 seats, sub-2% acceptance, intake skewing junior and senior, and a 75–80% return-offer rate that shrinks external hiring. Stripe historically opens summer applications in early August — watch the university page this month.

Summer 2027 req already live with no graduation window and no class-year floor — just “pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.” One of the best-paying and earliest-open 2027 postings anywhere. Wants real proficiency in one production language (Go, Node, Python, C++, Lua, Swift, C#, Java). No H-1B sponsorship, which affects full-time conversion later, not a CPT summer.

Prior postings required only a Bachelor’s or Master’s in progress plus one semester remaining afterward — no class floor — but the reported acceptance rate is under 1% and interns skew upperclass and graduate. The research-intern roles are PhD territory; the SWE and Applied tracks are the undergrad-accessible ones. An Emerging Talent register-interest pipeline is open now.

No freshman-specific program, but no hard class-year floor either: the bar is a 3.3 GPA and “at least one year of college remaining before graduation,” plus C/C++/Java/Python. Bloomberg has a track record of taking strong underclassmen even though the intake is described as primarily penultimate-year.

The AI Builder Intern posting is live in SF and NY with verified wording — “currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program” — and no class-year or graduation-window restriction. The separate summer SWE cycle is the caution: past postings carried grad windows that would exclude class of 2030, so read the actual req when it drops in fall. Prestige note: Scale’s standing dipped after the 2025 Meta investment and talent exodus.

Winter 2027 co-op reqs (backend, full-stack) are live now; summer 2027 posts in fall. Verified wording: “currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s… graduating after the internship’s completion” — no grad-year window — and the posting adds “even if you don’t meet all of the requirements listed, we still encourage you to apply.” It does list prior internship experience among requirements, which is where the portfolio has to substitute. Skip the ML track: MSc/PhD only.

The fallback if STEP/ASDI never rematerializes: the general BS SWE intern req went live around Jul 20 with no explicit class-year floor, though a freshman competes against all years. Google historically closes intern reqs within two to three weeks of opening, so this one may already be near the wire — apply immediately or wait for the next posting wave.

The 2027 SDE intern req is live (Job ID 10418355) with eligibility of “enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree or above in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related fields” — no class-year floor, all-years competition. Expects working knowledge of C/C++/Python/Java.

$10,000 stipend for a one-week founder intensive, plus an optional $10,000 investment at a $1B valuation cap. Explicitly supports “technical builders at all stages, from students to professionals” — no company or incorporation required, side projects count, no class-year floor, and the interview is about ten minutes. The cheapest high-signal application on this page and compatible with any other summer plan.

A paid summer at a KP portfolio startup plus the fellows network — one of the most recognised engineering fellowships in the Valley. No explicit class-year floor on the official page (just “engineering student”); the cohort skews sophomore and up, but freshmen have been admitted. The 2026 cohort required Bay Area availability Jun 23–Aug 29, which is trivial from Berkeley.

Roughly 2% acceptance, 20–30 scholars a year, mentorship plus recruiting introductions — a top-tier signal rather than a job. Guides describe applicants as typically sophomores or juniors, but no freshman exclusion appears on the official page. A shipped-products portfolio is the entire argument here.

Paid three-month summer placement at an 8VC portfolio company, engineering track. Currently closed; the historical cycle runs rolling into late January.

Fellows: academic-year VC apprenticeship (sourcing plus investing) that actively recruits at Berkeley; the application is a resume, a two-minute Loom about a campus founder, and a memo deconstructing a recent seed round — due Aug 9, 2026. VC-track people only. Garage: builder program for “Stanford and Berkeley engineering students across undergraduate and graduate programs” who have shipped real projects — workspace at Pear Studio, $100k+ in cloud credits, founder workshops. No class-year floor on either.

BRAIN: a remote alpha-research platform where you write trading signals and are “compensated on the quality of their ideas” — roughly 13,000 research consultants worldwide, no class-year or degree requirement, and an explicit pipeline into WorldQuant internships and full-time roles. Start tonight. IQC 2027: the International Quant Championship, open to university students 18+, $100,000 prize pool, global finals in Singapore, teams from a single university. One catch — current BRAIN research consultants are barred from IQC, so pick a lane.

The AI-safety research program that happens to be in Berkeley. No degree requirement — the FAQ asks only that scholars be 18 by the start date — but successful applicants typically arrive with technical research experience at roughly postgraduate level, and selection is mentor-by-mentor. Realistic after a year of URAP or SPAR output, not before. J-1 visas are provided for international participants, so the immigration path exists here.

$85,000/year salaried fellowship with health insurance, 401(k) and PTO, employed through CodePath; eligibility is “18 or older with fewer than two years of full-time work experience” and “no degree required.” Cohort 3 applications reopen September 2026. The wall: it requires US work authorization with no sponsorship and is a 12-month full-time commitment — incompatible with F-1 student status, since CPT is tied to enrolment and a year away breaks it. Listed so the September posting does not eat an evening.

AI-safety research fellowship — $3,850/week plus roughly $15,000/month in compute, no degree or prior ML requirement, selecting on research execution; over 40% of fellows convert to full-time Anthropic roles. Same wall as Claude Corps: work authorization in the US, UK or Canada, and a four-month full-time commitment that would require a semester off. Park it as a sophomore or junior target once SPAR and URAP output exist and the visa maths is solved.

The Undergraduate Research Apprentice Program — open to first-years, about 1,700 students a semester, and the de-facto BAIR entry point, since BAIR runs no formal undergraduate summer program and undergrads join labs through URAP or direct outreach. Strong apprentices routinely convert into paid summer positions in the same lab, which is the actual play here. Projects post in late summer; applications open Aug 21 and close around the first week of September. The most time-sensitive research move of the entire fall.

A $5,000 summer research stipend for continuing Berkeley undergraduates — the natural way to carry a URAP lab into the summer and get paid for it. The 2026 deadline was March 13, so expect mid-March 2027. Confirm stipend mechanics for international students with OURS; fellowship stipends are generally F-1-compatible in a way employment is not.

A short alumni externship that pairs undergraduates with alumni or employer mentors for an insider view of a career and workplace — and it runs inside winter break, Jan 4–15, 2027, so it costs you nothing in term time. Open to current undergraduates with no class-year floor, in person or virtual. This is the highest-value thing on the whole page relative to effort: a finance or tech shadow placement in January is exactly the concrete experience the sophomore quant applications in section 1.0 will ask about, and it is one registration form. Announced in L&S CareerMail, Aug 20.

Ten weeks of national-lab research ten minutes uphill from campus, and freshmen do qualify by coursework once one semester and six science credit hours are done — but SULI requires US citizenship or lawful permanent residency, which rules out an F-1 student outright.
